Costa del Silencio is the area west of Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. It extends from just before Las Galletas to Los Abrigos. This is the far south of Tenerife and was put on the map several decades back with the arrival of the TenBel vacation park. At the time, this park was a purely Belgian venture (hence the name Tenerife -Belgium). A lot of tourist activity developed around Tenbel so that one can now find many cafes, bars, restaurants, pizzerias and vacation entertainment in El Trébol. The neighboring fishing village of Las Galletas is an excellent base from which to explore Tenerife . In no time at all you can be in the major centers like Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas by public transport while staying in a more or less quiet area. The picturesque little port offers a mooring place for many pleasure boats and is known for its diving centers. Every morning there is a fish market where the previous night's catch is sold. Numerous restaurants feature the fresh fish of the day on the menu. Las Galletas still has many local merchants who do their best to please the tourists. Las Galletas is in stark contrast to the busy beach towns. Although one can find everything there is no oversupply. The region's quieter nature appeals more to adults and wintering seniors.
